Brilliant Earth Engagement Ring

Even though I have not started my product photography just yet I wanted to share with you the amount of effort that goes into creating a great product shot and also an affordable way to get everything juuuust right.

My brother had just proposed to his girlfriend at the time and I had some really nice shots from the engagement, however, I wanted to get all of the details of this beautiful ring. I had a bunch of cool looking rocks I collected from the banks of the Mississippi and found one that went great with this ring. I positioned them atop my iPad for the pure black base with a slight reflection. With my LED panel, a white piece of paper and tripod I was able to take several images with my Tamron Macro lens. I used Helicon Focus software to focus stack 26 images into one tac sharp image.

I wanted to show a little behind the scenes of how to get creative on a budget and still have great results. Taken with the camera mounted on a cheap tripod, LED panel set close to the subject and a white piece of paper to reflect the light and illuminate the other side of the subject. I was able to control the brightness and temperature of the light from the LED panel along with my shutter speed to get the right exposure. I took 26 shots while slowly adjusting the focus point across the subject from front to back.
